A Look at the 6 Types of Personal Brand Personas: Which One Are You?
Your personal brand is what you present to the world. However, if you really want to get it to work for you as a professional, it needs to be authentic, a true reflection of who you are at work and outside of the daily grind.
When last did you take the time to identify what makes you truly unique?
According to a 2011 New York Times article about psychology and content sharing, there are 6 personal branding personas.
Once you determine which persona category you fall into, it becomes a lot easier to build your content, visuals, and goals around it.
Persona 1: The Altruist
If you have a burning desire to help others, you may have an Altruist personal brand. You are very mindful of your actions and how they affect others – you also really value your personal relationships.
Persona 2: The Careerist
Are you always working towards a new career goal or personal achievement? You could be a Careerist. You will often find a Careerist on platforms that will help them raise their status in the professional world – LinkedIn is a good example of this.
Persona 3: The Hipster
If your individuality is incredibly important to you, you may fall into the Hipster persona group. You could have a Hipster personal brand if you’re someone who keeps track of trends and likes to try things first. You’re also always keen to connect with like-minded individuals. It’s not uncommon for this group to exhibit Careerist and Altruist traits too.
Persona 4: The Boomerang
Love a good debate? This could be your group. A Boomerang likes to keep an eye out for conversations and content that spark debate and get people thinking. Doing so is their way of positioning themselves as an expert or thought leader.
Persona 5: The Connector
The Connector is all for bringing people together – they’re the people who can always introduce you to someone you might get along with or want to work with. If making positive connections between people gives you all the feels, this is your group.
Persona 6: The Selective
Like to keep your cards close to your chest? A Selective likes to keep their groups small, keeping all information on a need-to-know basis. They’re also one of the most resourceful personas.
So, which of these personas do you identify with the most? Perhaps you identify with more than one? Whichever group you fall into, you can now start expanding your personal brand in a specific direction.
